Vocabulary Sentences: Tone Words (LA 8)

Write ten sentences using any ten of the twenty tone vocabulary words in each sentence. Using context clues, make the meaning of the tone word clear. Follow directions carefully to see what grammatical structure you must include and label in each sentence.

1, 2, and 3. Write sentences with a participial phrase at the beginning of the sentence. Underline/highlight, label as "part ph," and draw an arrow to the word it modifies.

 

4, 5, and 6. Write sentences with a participial phrase anywhere in the sentence but the beginning. Underline/highlight, label as "part ph," and draw an arrow to the word it modifies.

 

7. Write a sentence with a gerund phrase being used as the subject. Underline/highlight and label as "ger ph: S."

 

8. Write a sentence with a gerund phrase being used as the direct object. Underline/highlight and label as "ger ph: do."

 

9. Write a sentence with a gerund phrase being used as a predicate noun. Underline/highlight and label as "ger ph: pn."

 

10. Write a sentence with a gerund phrase being used as an object of the preposition. Underline/highlight and label as "ger ph: op."

 

 

 

Sentences are a quiz grade.

 

Points for each sentence:

(Each sentence is worth 10 pts)

 

2 pts: correctly uses the tone word

2 pts: uses context clues to make the meaning of the word clear

2 pts: phrase is used correctly

2 pts: phrase is underlined or highlighted and labeled correctly

2 pts: sentence is a complete sentence with no grammar, spelling, or punctuation errors.
