sentence below, filling in the blanks with your own words. You should make a statement about Shane’s personality. Next,
explain how the statement is true. Use textual evidence to support your answer. (Answers are expected to be well-elaborated,

4. Write down two
specific, open-ended discussion questions about chapters 1-2.
Sample Answer:
Huck is resourceful because he has the ability to look around and use everything he has to complete tasks.
For example, when Huck is locked up in his one-room shack, wondering if his father has left for good, he cannot find a way
out until he looks closer at the wall and finds “an old rusty saw without any handle; it was laid in between a rafter
and the clapboards of the roof) (33). Here Huck uses his keen sense of survival, his ability to find a way out of the house,
to create a plan to fake his death to get away from his father.

It shows that Gen. Zaroff feels that he is
superior. He thinks he is better than the
other human beings he hunts. Because
he is strong, he feels like he has the right
to do whatever he wants. The fact that
he calls the people he hunts the scum
of the earth shows how arrogant and
judgmental he is.
3 & 4: Now, following the same format,
do the same for Shane. You should analyze two quotations.
